A study of factors affecting EFL learners' virtual speaking learning

This study examined factors that affected EFL learners’ oral skill learning in distant tutoring contexts. The factors examined in this study included medium and dyads. 12 beginning/low intermediate- level university students participated in this study. Being divided into two sub-groups (webcam and non-webcam), they had spoken interactions with two student tutors who provided them with feedback in terms of their spoken errors within one-month time. The data were collected from students’ online oral interaction data, interview transcripts and the researcher’s observation journal. The analysis of those data provided insights into if and how the examined factors affect EFL learners’ oral skills learning in distant tutoring environments. The findings of the study will be presented in this paper.
