"Intercultural and linguistic exchange projects carried on by three schools in Brazil, Argentina and Sweden"

This presentation aims to report and discuss some cultural exchange experience projects which have been carried out by a Brazilian technical high school, COLTEC (Technical High school of the Federal University of Minas Gerais) and its partner schools Bäckgängsgymnasiet in Sweden and Escuela Superior de Comercio Manuel Belgrano (ESCMB), in Argentina. The partnership with Escuela Superior de Comercio Manuel Belgrano/Argentina started in 2012. Through this partnership, a cultural exchange program was established between Coltec and Escuela Superior de Comercio Manuel Belgrano from 2012 until 2015. All the online and face-to-face steps set up for the development of the project considered the process of broadening intercultural competence as being a key concept; we consider this construct as being the ability to acknowledge, respect and deal with the cultural diversity which exists in all societies. Moreover, the development of intercultural communicative competence was crucial as far as the whole process was concerned. (GARCÍA MARTÍNEZ, 2008). The intercultural exchange project with the Swedish school started in 2013. The interaction between students and teachers from COLTEC and students and teachers from the Swedish school Bäckgängsgymnasiet occurred mainly online  and through video conferences by using Skype, what’s app, Facebook and emails. Eventually, students and teachers from both schools visited each other in their respective countries. Throughout this presentation, we will present the students’ perceptions of the whole process.
