Keynote Speakers

Keynote Speakers:

We are fortunate to have three exceptional speakers this year:

Our first really shouldn't need any introduction. Anyone in a field associated with intercultural studies will know Darla K. Deardorff.

Dr. Darla K. Deardorff is a research fellow at Duke University and executive director of the Association of International Education Administrators.  She is the author/editor of 7 books and over 50 articles and book chapters on intercultural competence, international education, internationalization, and global leadership. She is affiliated-faculty at numerous institutions in different countries including Nelson Mandela University and Harvard's Global Education Think Tank and regularly invited to speak around the world on the above topics. She is an advisor to the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the OECD, and other international organizations. We are truly fortunate to have her speak.

Likewise with our second speaker. Steve J. Kulich (顾力行 教授) is Founder/Director of the SISU Intercultural Institute (SII) and Distinguished Professor at Shanghai International Studies University. He holds a PhD in Intercultural Communication/Education from Humboldt Univ. of Berlin, Germany. Awarded for contributions to Shanghai and the IC field in China, he is President-elect of the prestigious International Academy of Intercultural Research (IAIR).

There are few more qualified to speak about our field than our final speaker. Dr. Chen Jianlin is a Professor at Shanghai International Studies University (SHISU) where he heads the research program of graduate studies in theory and practice of Foreign Language Education and Language Educational Policy. He has an MA. in Descriptive and Applied Linguistics (University of Essex) and a Ph.D. in English Language Education (SHISU). Prof. Chen Jianlin worked on different issues in foreign language education related to curriculum development, education technology, web-based foreign language teaching and learning, CALL course design, etc. With a 15-collection TV Program of language education, around 10 books and some 60 articles and book chapters to his credit, Prof. Chen Jianlin has also been Visiting Professor in several universities in China and America. Since 2012, he is a vice-president of China CALL.

A truly impressive lineup of keynote speakers for APVEA2019.
